Thanks for the comment, but I do not share your opinion about Windows Server. OMV is much more flexible for what I want to do with a NAS, and requires less overhead. It also doesn't phone home to Microsoft.

I've found them to be very useful. They are a great way for someone new to Proxmox to get various VMs or Containers up and running quickly. This alone can give people a sense of accomplishment and leave them wanting to learn more about Proxmox. There is certainly plenty to learn, and I have to admit to there being things that I'm still learning about Proxmox after using it for more than 5 years.

I definitely feel better after taking the break. I am not married to the 8:30 time slot, but I might split the difference and move it to 9. I like being done a little earlier since I have to work on Monday mornings. If nothing else, you can always watch the playback at 1.5x speed. LOL!

Hi Charley. Typically when I have had problems with a barcode scanner, I will reset it to factory defaults and then reconfigure from there. Great to hear! There are absolutely parts of OMV which are less than intuitive. Having started with a pre-1.0 version of FreeNAS back in the day, nothing really phases me anymore.

@@Practical-IT Since I don't know much about networking and servers in general, I would like to know why for example we chose BTRFS as the filesystem and not EXT4 or something, what is the most reliable and offers the most usable storage, or what makes more sense with NVMEs rather than HDDs. I made my first home server, thankfully omv was pre installed but I want to make use of it as best as I can, without being a networking or linux wizard. Your videos have been the most clear and helpful so far.

The short answer: EXT4 is an older filesystem, that is more "traditional" in design and doesn't have a lot of "new" features. It is considered a "journaling" filesystem. BTRFS is a newer filesystem that works on the copy-on-write (COW) design. BTRFS has features to minimize the risk of data corruption. BTRFS also has some deduplication capabilities built in. Why did I select BTRFS in the video over EXT4? Well, the simple reason is to do longer-term testing of BTRFS. Another factor that played into my decision is that Synology (NAS manufacturer) is using BTRFS as standard on their devices. If it's ready for them to rollout, I feel pretty confident using it. What exactly are you trying to access via the browser with a different username? The admin panel, files, something else? You would be well served to consult the OMV documentation. docs.openmediavault.org/en/stable/index.html If you can give some additional detail about what you're trying to do, I might be able to steer you in the right direction. The only thing I access from the web browser is the administration interface. To access files I use the file manager on whatever OS I happen to be running.
